What the invoice doesn't show

Per-user pricing compounds with team size. A 5-person Standard team ($79/user/mo annual) pays $4,740/year before any add-ons. Moving to Professional ($119/user/mo) for full collaboration features jumps that to $7,140/year — for scheduling, a social inbox, and basic analytics.

Social listening is not bundled with Standard or Professional plans — it is a separate paid add-on priced at $49-149/month or more depending on query volume. Competitors market Agorapulse as a cheaper Hootsuite/Sprout alternative, but the listening add-on closes much of the cost gap for teams that need it.

The 10-social-profile limit on all paid plans creates friction for agencies managing multiple brands or companies running several business entities. Exceeding this requires the Custom enterprise plan, which requires a sales call and removes self-serve pricing transparency.

Annual prepayment is required on all standard plans. Unlike monthly-billed tools, Agorapulse locks teams into a full year at their selected tier — limiting flexibility for seasonal businesses or teams whose social media needs fluctuate.

Why this category is changing

Agorapulse's per-user pricing makes it a genuine value versus Sprout Social ($299/seat) and Hootsuite ($99/seat) for teams of 3-10, but it replicates their core pricing flaw: costs scale with headcount rather than value delivered. For 1-2 users, channel-based tools like Buffer are dramatically cheaper. For agencies with many profiles, the 10-profile cap forces a Custom plan negotiation. The sweet spot — small professional teams needing approvals and inbox management — is narrow.

Buffer

$6/mo per channel, Team plan $12/mo per channel

Channel-based pricing at $6/month per channel vs Agorapulse's per-seat model. A 5-person team with 10 channels pays $60/mo on Buffer vs $395/mo on Agorapulse Standard. AI content assistant included. Better value for teams primarily focused on scheduling.

Publer

Free (3 accounts), $12-$24/mo (team-based, not per-seat)

AI-powered social media tool with content generation, scheduling, and analytics at a flat team rate — no per-seat multiplication. AI content creation, bulk scheduling, and link-in-bio included. Up to 80% cheaper than Agorapulse for small teams.

Metricool

Free (1 brand), Smart $22/mo, Advanced $45/mo (not per-seat)

Single flat subscription covering multiple profiles with unified analytics across social media and paid ads. AI captions, competitor analysis, and SmartLinks included. Significantly cheaper than Agorapulse for small teams managing many social accounts.

How we calculate TCO

Total Cost of Ownership includes subscription fees, labor (valued at $50/hr based on BLS ECEC data), and estimated error costs. Error cost is inherently speculative and can be set to $0 for a conservative estimate. All defaults are sourced from published benchmarks and adjustable in our methodology.
